READING ROOM / EVIDENCE
The exciting finding is only the first question.
A study can open a door. Understanding who was studied tells you where that door leads.

Lateral hip pain: a promising focused-wave trial
A 2020 randomised trial studied 103 people with chronic greater trochanteric pain syndrome. Focused shockwave plus a specific exercise programme produced better reported outcomes than the comparison group. This was a diagnosis-specific trial, not a study of all hip or back pain.
Achilles pain: a useful counterpoint
A 2025 randomised trial of 57 people with chronic noninsertional Achilles tendinopathy found recommended-dose radial shockwave did not outperform minimal-dose treatment when both groups also followed rehabilitation. Positive improvement within a group does not by itself prove a treatment-specific effect.
Bring both results into the conversation
Ask which device, diagnosis and outcomes best match your situation. Responsible enthusiasm includes results that narrow expectations as well as results that expand possibilities.
